The rest stop at San Giacomo can be reached by car from Bormio (Stelvio SS 38, 60 km from Sondrio, 190 km from Milan). Follow the Foscagno SS 301 to Madonna della Pietà (4.5 km from Bormio). From there take the road on the right that is paved at first then unpaved (signs for the Cancano Lakes). The road goes over the Fraele Pass and follows along the shores of the two basins of the Cancano and San Giacomo Lakes and after about 8 km goes past the rest stop.

To Trepalle over Trela Pass (E; 4 hrs)
Along the road on foot or by mountain bike, you can get to all of the mountain huts that are located near the shores of the Cancano and S. Giacamo Lakes.
