To Pizzo Tambò. Difference in height: 1370 m Time required: 4-5 hrs. Difficulty: F (crampons, ice axe).
Route: From Montespluga, at first follow the road that leads to Spluga Pass. Turn off there near the Cantoniera House at 2065 m. to go left (W). Continue to about 2300 m. at the foot of a steep part known as "Il Balzo" (the leap), which you can cross thanks to the small canal that cuts across the slope. Above there the path returns to being less steep. Passing by some mounds, go towards the Eastern- Northeastern crest of Tambò. Continue your progress, passing near the summit of Pizzo Tamborello or Lattenhorn at 2858 m. Keeping to the southern side, follow along the crest and cross the small patch of glacier known as "La Spianata". This brings you directly under the mountaintop and in 20-30 minutes , you'll be at the summit.
Variation: It's also possible to start from Spluga Pass at 21113 m. and, always keeping to the Italian side near the eastern- northeastern crest, go uphill cutting across the southern slopes of Tamborello and then joining the main route.
