From Chiesa Val Malenco take the road that goes up to Primolo adn leave your car near the curve where there is an unpaved road on the left (closed to normal traffic) which leads to the Lago Alps. Follow the road to the meadows of the Lago Alps. Pass the church (1614 m) and from here go northwest around the basin and go gradually up to the old trail at around 1700 m of elevation. Shortly after, at a wide wooded ridge (around 1850 m) there is a crossroads. Don't take the road on the right that goes up to the Mastabia Alps, but instead climb over the ridge to enter Val Toreggio. The trail continues, going gently up and down. Take the marked trail that comes from the left and the Acquabianca Alps (Torre di Santa Maria) and cuts across the mountain side. Then the trail descends gently and passes the Serra Alps (1927 m) to come to the characteristic group of houses of the Airale Alps (2073 m). Then it passes a splendid basin and on the other side of the river comes to the mountain hut.

To Pontimountain hut 2559 m, via Desio mountain hut and the Corna Rossa Pass 2836 m (EE; 3 hrs and 30 min-4 hrs).
To Ventina and Gerli-Porro mountain huts and the Ventina Alps 1965 m, via Cassandra Pass 3097 m (F; 6hrs).
To Ventina and Gerli-Porro mountain huts 1965 m, via Ventina Pass 2675 m (E/EE; 8 hrs). This is the longest part of the "Alta Via" (upper route) of Val Malenco. The trail is in relatively good condition to the Pradaccio Alps (1725 m) then a bit discontinuous to the Sassera Lakes (2368 m). There are trailmarkers on the rocks and moraine to Ventina Pass (2665 m), and from here to the Ventina Alps there are trailmarkers and then a trail (in the upper part of the gully there is frequently snow all season). From Bosio go back the way you came to the Airale Alps (2097 m) continuing halfway down the mountainside (signs for Alta Via) to the Mastabia Alps (2077 m). From here cut across the slopes above Alpe Lago, passing by a talc quarry, to the Giumellino Alps (1756 m). Now, following the frequent yellow signs that indicate the Alta Via of Val Malenco, continue cutting across the slope to the Pradaccio Alps (1725 m). Turn left and go up the wide, harsh valley of Sassera, through a narrowing, to come out at a natural amphitheater dominated by Pizzo Rachele. Along stony ground pass by the northernmost of the three small lakes of Sassera and turn slightly towards the northwest. Continue along the rocky valley (snow at the beginning of the season) to the Ventina Pass, a wide saddle on the ridge which opens up north of Pizzo Rachele. From the pass go down over a large moraine valley (snow at the beginning of the season) to get to and then follow along the right right side of the moraine of the Ventina glacier. At the end of the valley the path joins the trail that goes from the Ventina Alps towards the glacier and in a few minutes comes to one or another of the mountain huts of the Ventina Alps.
